Respite CAre Service

The importance of Respite care

  • It maintains and strengthens the participant's existing support networks. Relieving the daily stress and caregiving demands of your family or other primary caregiver in the short term.
  • It provides a level of care and supervision appropriate to the needs of the participant.
  • It provides the opportunity for the participant to be in different settings to develop their social, physical and emotional skills with the support of a respite care provider.

How many hours of Respite Care can we get?

Your social worker will meet with you to determine what level of care your child requires and how many hours are assigned for this service.

How do I find a Respite care provider?

Dulce Respite Center is responsible for recruiting, training, and assigning the right provider to your family. Our provider will meet with the family and the family will make the final decision if they want to work with the provider or meet another candidate.

Could a member of my family become a respite care provider?

Respite programs may allow hiring relatives, including older siblings. The parents can't be the respite care providers. The parents are the recipients of the respite service. DRC can train any candidate who wants to offer respite care and to give them more tools and training with which they can help the children with special needs.

Where is the Respite service offered?

Mainly in the family home, it also could be given in the

community or in a care facility.

How do I know if my family needs this service?

Taking a break is good for you, your family and your child. Some

of the advantages of the respite service are: Re-energizing, socialization and stress reduction.

Youth Social Group

The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and welcoming environment where youth with special needs can connect with other youth and adults in the community who come as volunteers to spend quality time with them doing art, fine and gross motor, socialization activities. , music, dance and games.

We also take field trips to places in the community where parents usually do not take their children because they do not have the necessary support to manage their behavior or care needs, transportation, economic cost and in many cases because the families do not speak English and cannot communicate. with people from the community.

What is the minimum and maximum age to participate in this program?

Minimum age is 14 years, and maximum age is 25.

What is the cost?

The program is free until September 2024 and then will continue

to be sponsored by CLTS/IRIS.

When do the group meet?

It is usually held on Fridays from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. We offer two sessions per month.

Is Transportation offered?

No, parents are responsible for the transportation of their

children. In case of a special outing, we will provide transportation from a meeting point.
